June 5 marked the 55th World Environment Day. The Shanxi Provincial Association for Environmental and Resource Protection hosted a special symposium titled “Promoting Ecological and Environmental Public Welfare and Carrying Forward Traditional Chinese Virtues,” focusing on Shanxi’s ecological and environmental public‑interest initiatives during the “6·5” period. The association’s president and Chairman of the Board of Pengfei Group, Zheng Peng, attended and addressed the event, while association members, experts, and scholars offered constructive suggestions, pooling wisdom and strength to advance Shanxi’s ecological and environmental public‑interest efforts and its green, high‑quality development.

The association’s president and Chairman of the Board of Pengfei Group, Zheng Peng, attended and addressed the gathering, while association members, experts, and scholars offered constructive suggestions, pooling wisdom and strength to advance Shanxi’s ecological and environmental public‑interest efforts and its green, high‑quality development.

Li Zhongyuan, former president of the Shanxi Academy of Social Sciences and president of the Shanxi Think Tank Development Association, believes that Pengfei’s green transformation serves as a benchmark for the transformation of China’s private energy enterprises. He emphasized the need to approach ecological and environmental protection from the perspective of a community with a shared future for mankind, a community of national survival, and a community of high-quality development in Shanxi. He called for upholding the integration of professionalism, public interest, and sustainability; the convergence of capital, intellectual capital, and human capital; and the coordination of interaction, linkage, deep engagement, and multi‑pronged action. In doing so, he urged the association to redouble its efforts in advancing Shanxi’s ecological civilization, protecting its environment and resources, and supporting environmental public‑interest initiatives, with the aim of establishing Shanxi’s environmental‑protection and public‑interest work as a national—and even global—benchmark.

Zheng Peng pointed out that the Environmental Protection Code of the People’s Republic of China, as the country’s second law to bear the title “Code,” imposes higher standards on enterprises’ green development. As the association’s leading unit, Pengfei Group will effectively fulfill its roles as a catalyst, a leader, and a bridge, systematically reviewing and implementing each recommendation to contribute to the building of a beautiful Shanxi Province and strive to forge an ecologically sustainable path that sets a global benchmark.

The meeting adopted the “Three-Year Plan for the Healthy and Orderly Development of Environmental Protection Volunteer Services in Shanxi Province (2026–2028),” which sets out quantifiable targets for the next three years, including the coverage of provincial environmental protection volunteer service stations, the size of the volunteer workforce, and the development of educational bases. It also systematically outlines six core functions and six standardized operational mechanisms for grassroots service stations, providing a practical roadmap to promote the standardized, branded, and high-quality development of environmental protection volunteer services across the province.
