On May 14, Michael Levitt, the 2013 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry and Vice President of the World Academy of Sciences, accompanied by his wife, Shoshan Brosh Levitt, and Joel Ruet, Chairman of the French Bridge Think Tank, paid a visit to Shanxi Xiaoyi Pengfei Group for an inspection and exchange. The visit focused on the transformation and upgrading of the energy sector and the practical application of scientific and technological innovation. Through on-site observations and roundtable discussions, it sought to provide international expertise to help traditional energy enterprises make the transition toward green and low-carbon development.
At a symposium themed “Nobel‑Prize Wisdom Empowers, International Vision Leads,” Professor Levitt lauded the boldness of Chinese enterprises in undergoing transformation. He noted that Pengfei Group’s strategic shift from coal to hydrogen energy underscores the decisive role of scientific and technological innovation in reshaping industries. “When young scientists in their thirties achieve breakthroughs, companies must establish mechanisms that embrace trial and error,” he said, citing his own research experience to emphasize the importance of breaking down age‑based barriers in spurring innovative vitality. Turning to the intersection of life sciences and energy technologies, he explained the roles of DNA and proteins in biological processes, drawing an analogy to the complementary relationship between data algorithms and hardware in energy systems, thereby prompting attendees to reflect on the potential of interdisciplinary integration.
Zhou Rui, Chairman of the French Bridge Think Tank, stated that Pengfei Group has made significant contributions to both the artificial intelligence and hydrogen energy revolutions. From an international perspective, he believes that, by closely aligning with national policies, Pengfei Group can more proactively share its transformation experiences and achievements with the global community and seek like-minded partners, thereby enhancing its presence on the international stage. He also recommended that Pengfei Group further strengthen the application of artificial intelligence while exploring ways to integrate blockchain technology into its business operations, thus empowering its continued growth.
