On the morning of February 3, the sixth day of the Lunar New Year, a reporter visited Pengfei Coking Plant, located in the Xiaoyi Wutong Coal Chemical Circular Economy Demonstration Park, to gain first-hand insights into grassroots operations.

As soon as you step through the main gate, you’re greeted by seven bold, crimson characters—“Today’s Splendor Seen in Pengfei”—which gleam brilliantly against the glow of the morning sunrise and the verdant “Pengfei Green” buildings surrounding them.

“We are embarking on a journey of miracles,” said Ai Jun, Vice President of Pengfei Group and head of the Coking Division, as he led reporters up the stairs into the office building, enthusiastically outlining their core priorities for 2025.

“What is the ‘Journey of Miracles,’ and why should we embark on it?” In response to the reporter’s question, Ai Jun explained: “The ‘Journey of Miracles’ was proposed by Zheng Peng, Chairman of the Board and President of Pengfei Coking Plant, at the New Year’s Eve慰问 symposium held at the plant.” The reporter reviewed the meeting minutes provided by Ai Jun and found that Zheng Peng articulated the vision for the Journey of Miracles as follows: “Today’s industrial development demands both the capability and the methods to create miracles—only then can we achieve sustainable growth. Over the next decade, the coking industry will inevitably continue to shrink, and those enterprises lacking strong competitiveness will be phased out. This underscores the urgent need for our employees to cultivate a spirit of innovation and an innovative mindset. I hope that every member of the Pengfei Group will embrace this spirit and, in their work, each one of us can accomplish remarkable feats.”

Ai Jun told reporters that the Coking Business Unit is primarily responsible for coking‑related production and oversees facilities including Pengfei Coking Plant, Methanol Plant, Hydrogen Production Plant, Xinyu Coking Plant, Shengda Coal Washery, and Jiayu Coal Washery. By 2025, the unit aims to achieve steady progress while enhancing quality, ensuring robust coking operations; strengthen material‑balance management; benchmark against industry leaders in areas such as raw‑material costs, energy‑consumption metrics, and chemical‑reagent usage to attain industry‑leading performance; and leverage innovative thinking to optimize coal‑preparation and blending processes, thereby achieving cost leadership.

Beyond just implementing measures, in the office of Li Xiaodong, deputy director of equipment at the coking plant, the reporter also found a roadmap titled “The 2025 Pengfei Coking Plant Miracle Journey,” which is divided into four sub‑areas: benchmarking projects and industries to pursue continuous improvement; energy conservation and efficiency gains coupled with green development; leveraging automation to enhance workforce productivity and profitability; and managing equipment across its entire lifecycle to maximize value. Each sub‑area specifies clear objectives, responsible parties, deadlines, and concrete actions, along with established reward‑and‑penalty mechanisms and safeguards to ensure successful implementation.

“In 2025, we are confident in surpassing ourselves and creating miracles,” Li Xiaodong said with unwavering assurance.

Others who share Li Xiaodong’s confidence include Hao Guanbing and Xie Dong. Hao Guanbing serves as the General Manager of the Highway Logistics Division at Pengfei Group. At the division’s command center, he explained that Pengfei has established a smart‑operations company for bulk logistics based on a fleet of 10,000 heavy‑duty trucks, built a nationwide “Zero‑Carbon Smart Logistics Technology” management platform, and effectively expanded the market for hydrogen‑powered heavy trucks while boosting their production and sales. To date, the group has independently developed, manufactured, and put into service 320 hydrogen‑fuel‑cell heavy trucks, three hydrogen‑powered commuter buses, one hydrogen‑powered loader, one hydrogen‑powered Coaster minibus, and five hydrogen‑powered city buses. It has also deployed 500 hydrogen‑powered shared bicycles, creating a fully commercialized, end‑to‑end industrial‑chain demonstration model under the “One Station, One Transport, One Vehicle” framework.

Xie Dong serves as the chief engineer for both the methanol plant and the hydrogen‑production plant. At the site of Pengfei Group’s 3 × 500 standard cubic meters per hour water‑electrolysis green‑hydrogen project, Xie Dong explained that by the end of March 2025, the first batch of Pengfei hydrogen‑powered vehicle assembly lines will roll off the production line, with fuel cells, systems, membrane electrodes, and complete vehicles all being finalized at the Pengfei Zhichuang Automotive Industrial Park. Pengfei Group’s journey of innovation has officially begun. Speaking to reporters, Xie Dong stated that by 2025, in the field of hydrogen energy, the group will deploy nationwide integrated projects coupling multiple industries—renewable‑energy‑based green electricity for green hydrogen production, hydrogen storage, refueling, and dispensing, as well as green methanol, green synthetic ammonia, and green aviation fuel—further expanding the range of hydrogen‑energy applications. Centered on a zero‑carbon hydrogen corridor spanning Shanxi, Hebei, Tianjin, Beijing, Inner Mongolia, Shaanxi, Gansu, and Ningxia, the group will link manufacturing, refueling, and end‑use sectors with an extensive logistics network, stringing together individual components into cohesive chains, clustering these chains into robust ecosystems, and ultimately building momentum. The goal is to realize four major hydrogen‑energy blueprints: a transnational hydrogen‑energy corridor anchored in Xiaoyi, Lüliang; ten thousand hydrogen‑refueling stations; one million hydrogen‑powered vehicles; and a multi‑million‑ton hydrogen‑energy supply base—thus turning the vision of a beautiful hydrogen future into reality.
