From September 10 to 11, the 2024 Taiyuan Energy and Low-Carbon Development Forum’s International Symposium on Clean Energy Transition between China and Europe was held in Taiyuan. Zhang Fuming, Vice Chairman of the Shanxi Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference; Roderick Wols, Minister Plenipotentiary and Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in China; Zheng Zihao, Vice President of Pengfei Group, along with other Chinese and foreign guests, attended the event to jointly explore how clean energy can help China and Europe address global climate challenges, foster a green economic recovery, and advance sustainable growth.

In his opening remarks, Zhang Fuming, Vice Chairman of the Shanxi Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, emphasized that Shanxi will continue to adopt an open and cooperative stance, actively promoting close collaboration with European countries in areas such as clean energy technologies, low-carbon transportation, low-carbon cities, the circular economy, and green finance. With its abundant energy resources and robust industrial base, Shanxi provides a solid foundation for deepening cooperation with European nations. He expressed confidence that, through the concerted efforts of all parties, China–Europe cooperation at the local level will yield more innovative experiences and successful case studies, thereby contributing to the global energy transition and jointly advancing the development of a green, low-carbon energy future and a beautiful, clean world.

Roderick Wols, Minister Plenipotentiary and Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in China, pointed out that the world is currently at a critical juncture in addressing climate change, and Shanxi urgently needs to forge a new path of green, sustainable development that reflects its unique characteristics. The European Union and the Netherlands stand ready to join forces with Shanxi to advance its energy transition, unlock new economic potential, ensure a just and clean energy future, and together pave the way for a prosperous, sustainable future for humanity.

During the roundtable discussion themed “Sino‑European Energy Enterprises Join Forces to Support Local New‑Energy Development,” Zheng Zihao stated that Pengfei is proactively responding to the nation’s new energy‑security strategy. Leveraging Shanxi’s unique resource endowments and robust policy support, the company has boldly taken the lead in pioneering initiatives, deeply cultivating the hydrogen‑energy transportation sector, and actively expanding application‑demonstration scenarios centered on hydrogen‑powered heavy‑duty trucks. Pengfei has also established strategic partnerships with leading domestic enterprises and universities, striving to transform Shanxi into a hub of innovation and a model for the commercialization of new‑energy technologies. Looking ahead, Pengfei will closely align with national and regional strategic plans and policy directions, collaborating with distinguished domestic and international companies to strengthen exchanges and cooperation across talent, technology, manufacturing, and other dimensions, jointly unlocking the boundless potential of new‑energy development and advancing the global transition toward a cleaner, lower‑carbon future.

At the International Energy Industry Expo, held concurrently with this forum, Pengfei showcased its independently developed hydrogen-powered heavy-duty trucks and hydrogen‑fuelled shared bicycles, highlighting its achievements and real-world applications in the hydrogen energy sector to domestic and international guests.
