The Xiaoyi City Talent Development Promotion Conference and the Hydrogen Energy Industry Talent Cooperation Signing Ceremony were held in Shanghai | Pengfei signed contracts with 15 doctoral researchers.

On April 23, the 2024 Talent Development Promotion Conference and Hydrogen Energy Industry Talent Cooperation Signing Ceremony of Xiaoyi City concluded successfully at the Minhang Campus of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. During the event, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, the Xiaoyi Economic Development Zone, and Pengfei Group signed a cooperation agreement to jointly establish the “Joint Research Center for Fuel Cell Commercial Vehicle Technology,” while Pengfei Group entered into contracts with 15 doctoral researchers from resident enterprises.

Academician Lin Zhongqin of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and former president of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, along with Du Chaohui, Dean of the School of Mechanical and Power Engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong University; Qu Yegao and Zhao Yixi, Vice Deans of the same school; Ai Tingde, Director of the Research Office; Professor Yi Peiyun; Wang Zhenzhi, Party Secretary and Chairman of MCC Baosteel; Zhao Dalong, Fourth-Level Researcher at the Shanxi Provincial Office in Shanghai; Liu Tianming, President of the Shanghai Xiaoyi Chamber of Commerce; Wang Dantong, Marketing Manager of Shanghai Longze Technology Co., Ltd.; Liu Shiqing, Deputy Director of the Standing Committee of the People’s Congress of Lüliang City and Secretary of the Xiaoyi Municipal Party Committee; Feng Guangyuan, Party Secretary of the Party Working Committee and Director of the Management Committee of the Xiaoyi Economic Development Zone; Li Yuchang, Member of the Standing Committee of the Xiaoyi Municipal Party Committee and Head of its Organization Department; and Zheng Peng, Chairman of the Board and President of Pengfei Group, all attended. Also present were the doctoral researchers who signed the agreement, as well as professors from Shanghai Jiao Tong University who hail from Xiaoyi and student representatives.

Du Chaohui and Feng Guangyuan respectively presented an overview of the School of Mechanical Engineering and Power Engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, as well as an update on Xiaoyi City’s economic and social development and its needs for talent cooperation. Bai Yunfei, a doctoral representative from a company affiliated with Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Duan Dexin, a Shanghai Jiao Tong University alumnus from Xiaoyi who holds a doctorate, then took the floor in turn.

Du Zhaohui, Feng Guangyuan, and Zheng Peng signed a cooperation agreement on behalf of the university, the local government, and the enterprise. Pengfei Group also held on-site signing ceremonies with 15 resident corporate PhDs.

Yi Peiyun outlined the research and development progress and achievements of Shanghai Jiao Tong University in hydrogen energy technology, noting that the university has made significant advances in areas such as hydrogen fuel cell technology, water electrolysis for hydrogen production, and related components. In recent years, SJTU has also collaborated closely with Xiaoyi City and Pengfei Group, with its hydrogen‑energy innovations yielding tangible economic benefits in Xiaoyi. Moving forward, SJTU will devote its full resources to helping Xiaoyi achieve new breakthroughs in scientific research support, technological R&D, and talent recruitment, thereby contributing to the city’s economic and social development.

Liu Shiqing expressed his gratitude to talents from all sectors for the technical support they have provided in hydrogen‑energy research and development in Xiaoyi City, noting that Xiaoyi has consistently prioritized the hydrogen‑energy industry as a key driver of its industrial transformation, while the Lüliang Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government are also making every effort to foster this sector. He is confident that, with the backing of these highly skilled and cutting‑edge professionals, the hydrogen‑energy industry will flourish in Xiaoyi. Xiaoyi will offer the most favorable policies to attract and retain talent, treating service and support as the cornerstone of talent recruitment, and delivering services that are both warm, high‑caliber, and robust—ensuring that everyone can work with peace of mind, satisfaction, and confidence.

Lin Zhongqin emphasized that Pengfei’s transition from traditional energy to the hydrogen‑energy sector demonstrates remarkable foresight, and he expressed hope that the government will continue to provide robust support and assistance, implementing targeted policies to accelerate Pengfei’s growth in the hydrogen‑energy field. Shanghai Jiao Tong University, for its part, will offer technological expertise and talent‑development support, enabling Pengfei to take a leading position, move more swiftly, and achieve greater long-term success in the hydrogen‑energy industry.

Zheng Peng stated that over the past two years of collaboration between Pengfei and Shanghai Jiao Tong University, substantial progress has been made. Notable achievements have been attained in areas such as hydrogen production from coke oven gas, waste‑heat power generation from dry quenching of coke, water electrolysis for hydrogen production, the independent development of hydrogen‑powered heavy‑duty trucks, and hydrogen‑fuel engines. The signing of this cooperation agreement marks a deeper integration of industry, academia, research, and application, ushering in a new phase of university–local government partnerships and university–enterprise collaborations. Today, Pengfei places greater emphasis on innovation than ever before and is eager to attract top talent.
