Xiaoyi Pengfei’s 300,000‑ton‑per‑year methanol‑to‑aromatics project has received environmental impact assessment approval. February 4, 2018, China Coal Resource Network. On January 22, the environmental impact assessment report for Xiaoyi Pengfei Industrial Co., Ltd.’s 300,000‑ton‑per‑year methanol‑to‑aromatics project in Xiaoyi City, Shanxi Province, was approved. The project is being invested in and constructed by Xiaoyi Pengfei New Energy Co., Ltd., with the plant site located in the Xiaoyi Economic Development Zone. It is reported that the aromatics synthesis process employs a two‑stage reaction technology jointly developed by the Shanxi Institute of Coal Chemistry and Saiding Engineering Co., Ltd. (formerly the Second Design Institute of the Chemical Industry), which is protected by independent intellectual property rights. In the first stage, modified alumina serves as the catalyst.

On January 22, the environmental impact assessment report for the 300,000-ton-per-year methanol-to-aromatics project in Xiaoyi City, Shanxi Province, was approved. The project is being invested in and constructed by Xiaoyi Pengfei New Energy Co., Ltd., with the construction site located in the Xiaoyi Economic Development Zone.
It is reported that the project’s aromatics synthesis employs a two-stage reaction process jointly developed by the Shanxi Institute of Coal Chemistry and Saiding Engineering Co., Ltd. (formerly the Second Design Institute of the Chemical Industry), which is protected by independent intellectual property rights.
In the first stage, a modified alumina catalyst is used to dehydrate methanol, yielding a mixture of methanol, dimethyl ether, and water. In the second stage, a modified ZSM‑5 molecular sieve serves as the catalyst to convert this methanol–dimethyl ether–water mixture into aromatics.
The project’s primary production and processing capacity is 300,000 tons per year of light and heavy aromatics (270,000 tons of light aromatics and 30,000 tons of heavy aromatics), with by-products including 38,000 tons per year of LPG.
