A panel of 30 experts visited Pengfei to jointly discuss the energy revolution and accelerate the development of a new‑type energy system.
On August 13, the inaugural Energy Economics Symposium and a delegation of 30 experts from the editorial board of the journal “Coal Economy Research” visited Pengfei for an academic field study. They engaged in in-depth discussions with Zheng Peng, Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the Board, and President of Pengfei Group, focusing on topics such as the high-quality development of the coal‑coking‑chemical industry chain, the further advancement of the energy revolution, and the accelerated construction of a new‑type energy system.
The expert delegation visited, in succession, the Pengfei Urban Hydrogen‑Recharging Integrated Energy Island, the Pengfei Coking Plant, the Methanol‑to‑Hydrogen Heat‑Source Plant, the Pengwan Hydrogen Port Central Control Center, and the 5G+ Central Dispatch and Command Management Center. By watching corporate promotional videos and listening to the company’s development story, they gained an in-depth understanding of Pengfei’s corporate profile, industrial layout, the current state and future plans for the hydrogen energy industry, as well as the outcomes of the “5G+ Industrial Applications” project.

Zheng Peng, on behalf of Pengfei Group, extended a warm welcome to the visiting experts, noting that Pengfei’s 30-year journey of growth has been underpinned by the Party’s favorable policies, Shanxi’s unique advantages, regional strengths, and the relentless efforts of its 30,000 employees. The issuance of the “Opinions of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council on Promoting the Development and Growth of the Private Sector” has further strengthened Pengfei’s confidence and resolve to expand, enhance, and fortify its operations. Now at the cusp of its thirtieth anniversary, Pengfei finds itself in an ideal phase of robust growth. We are confident that the visit of these distinguished experts and professors will empower the development of Pengfei’s industrial chain, accelerating its transition into a high‑quality, competitive enterprise, thereby contributing to China’s modernization through Pengfei’s own high‑quality development and modernization.

Wang Honglei, Vice President of Guizhou University, on behalf of the visiting experts, expressed gratitude for Pengfei’s warm hospitality, noting that the on-site visit allowed them to witness the transformative journey of a traditional Chinese enterprise—its evolution, innovation, and pioneering efforts. He added that Pengfei’s groundbreaking achievements in the hydrogen energy sector and hydrogen fuel cell technology are truly impressive. As a major energy‑producing country, China places particular emphasis on ensuring energy security, building a new‑type energy system, and achieving its “dual carbon” goals in the pursuit of Chinese‑style modernization. The development of Pengfei’s hydrogen energy industry has advanced the optimization of China’s energy landscape, while also guiding, catalyzing, and extending the growth trajectories of the nation’s equipment manufacturing and logistics sectors. It is hoped that, through the editorial board of the journal “Coal Economy Research” as a bridge, cooperation among industry, academia, research, and application can be strengthened with Pengfei, jointly addressing the challenges it faces as it expands beyond Shanxi, reaches across China, and ventures onto the global stage. This collaboration will help China fulfill its responsibilities as a major country in environmental protection and collectively advance the realization of Chinese‑style modernization.

Ou Kai, Party Secretary and Chairman of the Coal Industry Planning and Design Research Institute, emphasized that, throughout Pengfei’s 30-year journey of reform and development marked by perseverance and resilience, he has witnessed the company’s broad vision, bold ambition, and profound wisdom. The report to the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China called for “strengthening the clean and efficient utilization of coal” and “accelerating the building of a new energy system.” By transitioning from a coal‑chemical enterprise to a hydrogen‑energy and next‑generation‑energy player, Pengfei has become a pioneer, practitioner, and model in implementing the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress. The Coal Planning Institute is committed to providing robust think‑tank support to government and industry bodies—including the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Emergency Management, and the National Energy Administration—as well as to energy enterprises. It looks forward to deepening cooperation with Pengfei and its experts in the years ahead, focusing on areas such as Pengfei’s development strategy, corporate governance, and green, low‑carbon transformation.

Pengfei will take this visit and exchange with the expert delegation as an opportunity to fully leverage its role as a key innovator, unite the strengths of industry and academia, build a communication bridge spanning research and development, technology transfer, and service provision, advance the construction of a new‑type energy system, and jointly contribute to the realization of the “dual carbon” goals, thereby making Pengfei’s own contribution to the goal of building a modern socialist country.
