On November 10, at the invitation of the CPC Nankai District Committee and the Nankai District Government of Tianjin, Zheng Peng, Chairman of the Board and President of Shanxi Pengfei Group, traveled to Tianjin for a fact-finding visit and exchange. Accompanying him were Li Lirong, Deputy Director of the Agricultural Work Committee of the Lüliang Municipal Political Consultative Conference, and Tian Zhenguo, Vice President of the Group and General Manager of Engineering Projects, among other colleagues.
Ma Shanshan, Secretary of the Nankai District Party Committee, Zhang Zhihua, Deputy District Mayor, along with responsible officials from the Education Bureau, the Science and Technology Bureau, and the Association for Science and Technology, extended a warm welcome.
On the afternoon of the 10th, Chairman Zheng Peng and his delegation visited the Haihe Laboratory for Green Creation and Manufacturing of Materials. They gained insights into cutting-edge research spanning catalytic synthesis of novel carbon-based materials, high-performance new energy materials, and the conversion and utilization of carbon-based resources, learning how these core technological breakthroughs are driving innovative, foundational advancements across sectors such as petroleum and petrochemicals, green pharmaceuticals, new energy applications, high-end chemicals, and aerospace. They also expressed high praise for a series of pioneering studies and their resulting achievements.
Both parties aim to establish a deep collaborative partnership to accelerate the translation and application of scientific research findings in industry, with enterprises and research institutions joining forces to make new contributions to the “dual carbon” goals and the energy transition, yielding fresh outcomes.
Located in Nankai District, Tianjin, this initiative represents a major step in Tianjin’s effort to establish itself as a key source of China’s independent innovation and a primary hub for original scientific breakthroughs—a “national strategic asset” of Tianjin’s own making.
Subsequently, the two sides held a working discussion on the proposed development project for the land parcel in Nankai District.
Secretary Ma Shanshan stated that Pengfei not only boasts substantial scale and strong capabilities but also possesses a diversified industrial portfolio—qualities that align perfectly with the collaborative goals of Nankai District. The district’s real estate development projects address the demand for improved housing among local intellectuals, workers, and residents, calling for the involvement of socially responsible enterprises to ensure both economic and social benefits are realized. Pengfei Group has the strength, and Chairman Zheng Peng brings deep commitment. As long as investment is directed to Nankai, the district will mobilize its resources to support such initiatives, and the district government will establish a dedicated task force to work hand-in-hand with Pengfei, turning these projects into exemplary undertakings that earn widespread public acclaim. At the same time, we hope Pengfei will engage in even more investment and construction across various sectors in Nankai District, paving the way for new heights of growth—both in Nankai and throughout Tianjin.
Chairman Zheng Peng stated that the leadership team of Nankai District is capable, pragmatic, and highly efficient. During this inspection, he deeply sensed the sincere commitment of the District Party Committee, the District Government, and all relevant departments to Pengfei’s investment in Tianjin. Pengfei places great value on Nankai District’s strengths in education and scientific research; through project development, it aims to address local livelihood needs while providing its employees with a better and broader platform for growth—key priorities in its investment strategy. Once the project is finalized, Pengfei will deliver results that reflect both its high standards and distinctive character. Meanwhile, as Pengfei’s hydrogen‑energy industrial chain continues to mature, the prospects for future cooperation with Nankai District are exceptionally promising. Collaborations spanning industry–university–research partnerships, hydrogen‑powered urban service vehicles, and hydrogen refueling infrastructure, along with new fields and initiatives, remain ripe for joint exploration by both sides. With aligned goals for future development, Pengfei and Nankai District are poised to write a new chapter and achieve even greater success.
On the morning of the 10th, accompanied by Zhang Zhihua, Deputy District Mayor of Nankai District, and Sun Jiankun, Director of the District Education Bureau, Chairman Zheng Peng and his delegation visited Nankai Middle School—the alma mater of two former premiers of the People’s Republic of China, a school with a history spanning 118 years. By examining a wealth of precious photographs, written records, and tangible artifacts, they gained an in-depth understanding of the school’s development over more than a century, which has been closely intertwined with the destiny of the Chinese nation and with the transformative changes in modern and contemporary Chinese education. They also posed for a commemorative photo before the bronze statue of Premier Zhou Enlai and at the main entrance of Nankai Middle School.
