On October 17, 2022, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment announced that the implementation plan for the green transformation project of the coking plant operated by Xiaoyi Pengfei Industrial Co., Ltd. had successfully passed the expert review organized by the Ministry and was included in the central environmental protection special‑funds project reserve. This project is Shanxi Province’s first—and only—soil pollution source‑control initiative involving an operating enterprise to be approved at the national level and added to the reserve.

With a high‑level vision and rigorous planning, the company has undertaken comprehensive upgrades and renovations of its environmental protection and production systems. Its 2.56‑million‑ton‑per‑year coking ultra‑low‑emission retrofit project has successfully passed acceptance inspection. Meanwhile, industrial workers have undergone a fundamental transformation, moving from working environments characterized by sooty faces and bare teeth to a modern setting where they don white shirts, sit in centralized control rooms, and operate production processes by typing on keyboards.

Despite its achievements, Pengfei Group has not rested on its laurels; instead, it has proactively coordinated with environmental protection authorities to implement source‑level control of soil contamination and carried out systematic, comprehensive upgrades to address existing soil‑contamination risks within its premises. These efforts have ensured effective management of soil‑environmental pollution risks, while also facilitating the bundling of related projects and their successful inclusion in the national database.
The implementation plan for the green transformation of Pengfei Group’s coking project has a total investment of RMB 42.7739 million, with an application for RMB 14.25 million in central government special funds for soil pollution prevention and control. The project is scheduled for completion by the end of 2023. Its successful execution will substantially enhance Pengfei Group’s capacity for green and high‑quality development, effectively prevent new soil and groundwater contamination on its premises, and provide a replicable, scalable model for soil and groundwater pollution prevention and control that can be adopted by operating coking enterprises nationwide, delivering significant demonstration effects.
