On August 11, the “Shanxi Coal, Coking, and Steel Enterprises Visit Dalian” event was launched in Dalian. At the invitation of Hu Yuting, Deputy Secretary of the Liaoning Provincial Party Committee and Secretary of the Dalian Municipal Party Committee, Zheng Peng, Chairman of the Board and President of Shanxi Pengfei Group, traveled to Dalian to attend the event.
A delegation from 12 coal, coking, and steel enterprises in Shanxi visited the Dalian Commodity Exchange, engaging in in-depth discussions with the exchange and the local business community. Together, they explored how to leverage the futures market as a bridge to open up new avenues for cooperation between Shanxi and Dalian, thereby building a new platform for advancing bilateral collaboration and high-quality development.
On the morning of the 11th, Chairman Zheng Peng, together with guests from various sectors, witnessed the launch of the Dalian Commodity Exchange’s over-the-counter platform—the Taigang Trading Zone.
According to reports, the Dalian Commodity Exchange launched coking coal, metallurgical coal, and iron ore futures in 2011 and 2013. Over the past decade and more, as China’s economy has grown rapidly, the functions of black‑commodity contracts—led by coking coal and iron ore—have continued to improve. Supported by a robust spot market and strong market demand, the Dalian Commodity Exchange has become one of the world’s leading trading hubs for coal and iron‑ore futures.
At the symposium, Shanxi entrepreneurs discussed their past collaborations with the Dalian Commodity Exchange and Dalian-based enterprises, expressing confidence in the complementary strengths of Shanxi–Dalian cooperation, anticipation for participating in the futures market, and offering candid suggestions.
At the meeting, Chairman Zheng Peng outlined Pengfei’s progress in developing a fully integrated industrial chain and shared the benefits the company has reaped since entering the futures market with the support of the Dalian Commodity Exchange. He noted that over the past few years, Pengfei has maintained close, in-depth cooperation with the DCE, yielding substantial gains in both the spot and futures markets. In recent years, the company has generated significant annual revenues across the entire futures landscape, and he expressed his gratitude for the DCE’s strong and proactive support.
During the exchange, Chairman Zheng Peng warmly invited leaders of the Dalian Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government, along with experts from the Dalian Commodity Exchange, to visit Shanxi and Pengfei for fact-finding and collaborative discussions, with the aim of turning coal, coking, steel, and futures into a strong link between the two regions.
Ran Hua, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the Dalian Commodity Exchange, emphasized that Shanxi, as China’s leading province in coking coal and coke production, is a top priority for the Exchange’s market‑service efforts. In particular, over the past two years, as the spot‑market landscape has evolved, new opportunities for deeper cooperation between the two sides have emerged. The Dalian Commodity Exchange will support Shanxi’s transformation from a major coal‑resource province into a resource‑strong province, helping its coal‑coking‑steel enterprises grow stronger and more competitive.
Leng Xuefeng, a member of the Party Leadership Group of the Dalian Municipal Government, expressed strong agreement with the views articulated by Chairman Zheng Peng and representatives of Shanxi’s business community. He stated that Dalian will further leverage the pivotal role of the Dalian Commodity Exchange in the futures market, using the integration of spot and futures markets as a strategic entry point for deepening cooperation between Shanxi and Dalian, thereby elevating bilateral collaboration to a new level.
This event aims to leverage the combination of spot and forward transactions as a breakthrough for further deepening cooperation between Shanxi Province and Dalian, seize development opportunities, and support the innovative development of Shanxi-based enterprises, thereby advancing bilateral cooperation with greater strength and superior resources.
The following morning, accompanied by Zhou Gang, Vice President of Dalian Heavy Industry Equipment Group, Chairman Zheng Peng also visited the production base of Dalian Huarui Heavy Industry Vehicle Equipment Co., Ltd. and held discussions with Zhou Gang and others, reaching several agreements and expressing intent to cooperate on areas such as the intelligent transformation of Pengfei’s coking industry and the manufacturing of equipment for the hydrogen energy sector.
