To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Youth League, we aim to inspire young cadres and employees to continuously strengthen their awareness of innovation, cultivate innovative thinking, unlock their innovative potential, and strive to become knowledgeable, skilled, and innovative talents.
On May 26, the Communist Youth League Committee of Pengfei Group and the Pengfei Trade Union Federation jointly organized the on-site evaluation for the 2022 “Five Smalls” competition among young employees.
The 2022 “Five Smalls” Competition for Young Employees of Pengfei Group was divided into two categories—coking technology and management functions—and was held separately at the Pengfei Coking Plant and the Pengfei Headquarters. During the event, 27 Pengfei employees took to the stage one by one to present their projects and respond to questions from the judging panel.
The event was graced by the participation of Yang Caiping, Head of the Economic and Technical Department of the Xiaoyi City Federation of Trade Unions, and Wang Dian, Deputy Secretary on secondment from the Xiaoyi Municipal Committee of the Communist Youth League.
At the coking‑technology innovation selection event held on the morning of May 26, 16 young employees from various plants and departments within the coking system took part. Following on‑site presentations, Q&A sessions with the judging panel, and live scoring, 11 contestants ultimately received first, second, third prizes, and an excellence award. Notably, the project “Installation of an Intelligent Control System for High‑Voltage Switchgear in the Power Plant’s High‑Voltage Room,” submitted by the team led by Tian Xiaoping, Director of the Electrical and Instrumentation Workshop at the Methanol Plant, earned the first prize with an outstanding score of 96.2 points.

Zhang Zhilong, Deputy General Manager of the Coking Systems and Director of the Pengfei Coking Plant, provided commentary on the morning’s activities, noting that the coking plants within the system exhibit uneven levels of technical expertise, and outlined specific requirements for the next phase of training.
This competition serves as a comprehensive assessment of the skills of our Pengfei Group’s coking‑industry employees, while also providing a platform for training, learning, and knowledge sharing. Moving forward, while acknowledging areas for improvement, we must devise concrete measures and explore effective solutions. Going forward, the System Production Technology Department and the technical sections at each plant should prioritize organizing training programs to enhance employees’ professional expertise. Fostering employees’ innovative thinking is paramount to building a high‑caliber workforce. We will always uphold Pengfei’s ethos of transforming our mindset, keeping pace with the times, tackling challenges head‑on, and striving for excellence. We hope that, riding the momentum of this competition, we can ignite an even stronger wave of innovation and accelerate the Group’s progress toward its goal of becoming a lighthouse enterprise in the modern coal‑coking full‑industry chain.
In the afternoon’s innovation competition for management functions, 11 contestants participated, and six were awarded. The “Homemade Belt‑Conveyor Project” presented by Xue Haiyu, a technician in the Mechanical and Electrical Management Department of the coal industry system, won first prize.
Lü Xiaofang, Executive Deputy General Manager of the Group and Chairperson of the Trade Union Federation, provided commentary on the afternoon’s selection event and delivered a concluding address.
At Pengfei, innovation encompasses conceptual innovation, technological innovation, managerial innovation, and service innovation. In essence, transformation is itself a form of innovation, and any refinement or improvement at the job level constitutes innovation. Enhancing employees’ professional skills and fostering their spirit of innovation are top priorities in the Youth League Committee’s talent‑development efforts at Pengfei Group. All staff members must remain committed to lifelong learning—applying what they learn, striving for continuous improvement, and driving innovation—while boldly taking the lead in advancing the company’s high‑quality transformation and development.
The “Five Smalls” initiative—comprising small inventions, innovations, improvements, designs, and suggestions—is a longstanding tradition of the trade union. It serves as a key lever for advancing reforms in building the industrial workforce, enhancing workers’ skills and competencies, and cultivating model workers and master craftsmen. At the same time, it provides an effective platform for harnessing the leading role of the working class. The Youth League Committee and the Trade Union of Pengfei Group will continue to expand the reach of the “Five Smalls” program and increase employee participation, encouraging young workers to seize learning opportunities, sharpen their professional expertise, pursue bold innovation, and contribute actively to the new era.
