The Power of Leadership | The Pengfei Team, an Outstanding Talent Group from Xiaoyi City, Delivers a Double Punch
The Power of Leadership
On May 25, the Xiaoyi Municipal Party Committee, the Municipal People’s Government, and the Municipal Talent Work Leading Group held a “cloud-based” naming ceremony for outstanding talents in Xiaoyi City, honoring 30 distinguished individuals and six exemplary teams who have made remarkable contributions to the city’s reform and development. Liu Shiqing, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Lüliang Municipal People’s Congress and Secretary of the Xiaoyi Municipal Party Committee, attended the ceremony and delivered a speech, while Guo Qingzhi, Deputy Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee and Mayor, also took part.
Among the six outstanding teams, Liu Feng’s Digital Intelligence Team from Pengfei Group and the project team for the Suosheng Fupeng Bay Hydrogen Port Hydrogen Energy Industrial Park were recognized.
The Digital Intelligence Team of Shanxi Pengfei Group was established in March 2016. Led by Liu Feng, Director of the Digital Intelligence Center, the team comprises 28 members, including three mid-level engineers and 23 bachelor’s degree holders. The team’s primary research focus is on leveraging big data and cutting-edge technologies such as 5G and artificial intelligence to equip traditional industries with “eyes that see千里 away and ears that hear the wind,” thereby driving their transition toward intelligent, high-end development.
Its Pengfei Group’s 5G‑enabled smart factory and smart mining projects have been repeatedly featured in provincial and municipal high‑quality development conference documents, consistently attracting interest from key economic parks both within and outside the province, and earning recognition from Party‑affiliated media. Through the “Discover Shanxi” section of the English‑language China Daily, the group has represented Shanxi’s outstanding enterprises—pioneers in coal‑based industrial revitalization and ecological development—by amplifying their voice to the world.
The project team for the Suoshengfu Pengwan Hydrogen Port Hydrogen Industry Park of Shanxi Pengfei Group was established in May 2015. Led by Suoshengfu, the project’s chief commander, the team comprises six core members, including one senior engineer and five mid-level engineers. The team’s primary research focus is on the introduction of new energy sources and cutting-edge technologies, as well as their industrial-scale production and practical application. By adopting advanced technologies, processes, and equipment, the team aims to establish a self-sustaining, closed-loop industrial chain.
The methanol–LNG co‑production project of Xiaoyi Shengshi Fuyuan Methanol Manufacturing Co., Ltd. and the cogeneration project of Xiaoyi Fuyuan Jinlai Heat Source Co., Ltd., both under its responsibility, were commissioned on July 15, 2016. These projects represent the province’s first—and the nation’s largest—methanol–LNG co‑production facility based on a single production route. Notably, in February 2018, Xiaoyi Shengshi Fuyuan Methanol Manufacturing Co., Ltd. was recognized by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology as a “Green Factory.”
The tail‑gas upgrading and synthetic ammonia production project of Xiaoyi Shengshi Fuyuan Methanol Manufacturing Co., Ltd., which he oversees, was commissioned in July 2019. The project utilizes hydrogen from methanol tail gas and surplus nitrogen from air separation to produce synthetic ammonia, thereby achieving the goal of fully utilizing and maximizing the value of coke oven gas.
The Phase I 20,000‑ton‑per‑year coke‑oven‑gas‑to‑hydrogen project at Pengwan Hydrogen Port, under its responsibility, officially broke ground on January 1, 2021, during the first “Three Batches” event of 2021 held at the Shanxi Provincial Economic Development Zone. By integrating local hydrogen‑energy industry resources and reducing the production and operational costs of hydrogen, the project aims to ensure the product’s market competitiveness both nationally and globally, while leveraging a “hydrogen‑pooling‑at‑the‑port” strategy to achieve economies of scale in the hydrogen‑energy sector. The initiative seeks to establish Lüliang City as a hub for hydrogen supply, hydrogen‑technology R&D, and hydrogen‑equipment manufacturing, ultimately positioning the city as a northern hydrogen port that serves as a national—and even global—model.
