On May 22, 2017, CCTV‑13’s News Live Room reported, “Xiaoyi, Shanxi: Turning 1 billion cubic meters of coke oven gas into a valuable resource.” Zhu Lihua, executive deputy director of Pengfei Coking Plant, was interviewed by a CCTV reporter. Pengfei Group’s project to co‑produce 400 million cubic meters of LNG alongside 600,000 tons of methanol leverages the surplus coke oven gas generated during coking at its 5‑million‑ton‑per‑year coking base. After compression, purification, and decarbonization, the gas is deeply cryogenically liquefied at minus 170 degrees Celsius, yielding LNG as the final product. The remaining hydrogen, carbon monoxide, and carbon dioxide from the decarbonization process are compressed and blended in the methanol synthesis system to produce methanol, thus charting a new path for the transformation and development of coal‑coking enterprises.
