On July 26, 2016, the Shanxi News Broadcast reported a brief item titled “The first phase of the Xiaoyi Pengfei 600,000-ton methanol–400 million-cubic-meter liquefied natural gas co‑production project has been commissioned.” This project is the province’s first and the nation’s largest to produce methanol while simultaneously generating LNG using the same process technology. By overhauling conventional methods, it has more than doubled the profitability of previous processes—while keeping capital investment unchanged—fully delivering on Chairman Zheng Peng’s promise made three years earlier.
