A new year ushers in a fresh start, and practical action paves the way for a new chapter. Recently, “Pengfei’s 100,000-vehicle-per-year manufacturing project for new-energy and hydrogen-powered engineering vehicles; Pengfei’s hydrogen‑powered automotive components manufacturing project; Pengfei’s 30,000-vehicle-per-year specialized vehicle manufacturing project.” Three projects have been successfully included in Shanxi Province’s 2024 List of Key Projects. This selection underscores Pengfei’s status as the leading enterprise in the province’s hydrogen energy industrial chain, highlighting its increasingly prominent role in extending and refining the chain, enhancing its competitiveness and stability, and serving as a model for high-end equipment manufacturing—efforts that have earned full recognition from the Shanxi Provincial Government.

The three projects selected for the provincial key‑project program at Pengfei focus on new‑energy vehicles and high‑end equipment manufacturing, forming an integral part of Pengfei’s hydrogen‑energy industry development and setting a national benchmark for environmental protection and sustainable development. Through these initiatives, Pengfei will continue to introduce and assimilate cutting‑edge technologies, driving both technological innovation and industrial upgrading. At the same time, these projects will help reduce reliance on conventional fuel‑powered vehicles, lower carbon emissions, and improve air quality, thereby making a significant contribution to achieving China’s “dual carbon” goals. They also play a crucial role in enhancing Pengfei’s competitiveness, brand recognition, and influence, while fostering the growth of the new‑energy vehicle sector and high‑end manufacturing, and serving as a practical demonstration of green energy applications and sustainable development.

Over the years, with the strong support and attention of relevant provincial and municipal authorities, Pengfei has steadily accelerated its deployment in the hydrogen energy sector, proactively aligning itself with the national hydrogen industry’s overall strategic framework. The company is vigorously advancing a comprehensive hydrogen‑energy industrial chain that integrates production, storage, transportation, refueling, application, research and development, and equipment manufacturing. By transforming and upgrading its traditional energy operations, Pengfei is fostering new business models and a new economy centered on hydrogen, fully leveraging its role as a leading “chain‑leader” enterprise within Shanxi’s hydrogen‑energy value chain.

In particular, in the areas of strengthening, extending, and completing the hydrogen‑energy industry chain, in 2023 Pengfei completed and put into operation its fourth urban hydrogen‑integrated energy island. The first batch of hydrogen‑powered commuter buses, the first hydrogen‑fuelled loader, and the initial fleet of hydrogen‑powered public buses were successively launched. Meanwhile, the second batch of 100 next‑generation hydrogen‑powered heavy trucks was officially deployed, two group standards for producing ultra‑high‑purity hydrogen from coke oven gas were adopted as national benchmarks, and the company’s first National Key R&D Program project received formal approval. Over time, Pengfei has been committed to lengthening short links, reconnecting severed segments, and bolstering weak links, steadily bringing into view a comprehensive, end‑to‑end vision for the development of its hydrogen‑energy industry.

In 2024, Pengfei will continue to drive industrial chain supplementation, extension, and strengthening through project‑based initiatives. Building on its existing industrial base, the company will proactively expand upstream and downstream: it will deploy projects for hydrogen production using photovoltaic and wind power both within and beyond the province, explore new markets and application areas, deepen its presence across the entire value chain, and create new growth drivers—thereby injecting robust momentum into the nation’s high‑quality, sustainable development of the hydrogen energy industry.
